WiMax Service Extended

Jan. 29, 2016

Great news! A Massachusetts state court granted our motion to extend the preliminary injunction that temporarily saved Internet access for the people we serve. In a welcomed show of support, Sprint signed on to the request. This is a step in the right direction for all of us.

The modifications to the injunction approved by the court create a schedule for a phased shutdown of Sprint’s WiMax network, with towers shutdown in 16 cities by February 2, 39 cities by February 29, and the remaining 25 cities by March 31st. The full schedule is available here.

In the meantime, we will still be in the courts fighting not just for access for our customers now, but for access over the long term. With more than 20 years remaining on our Clearwire/Sprint contract, the resolution of this case will impact the level of broadband service available to hundreds of thousands of people over the next two decades.
