Voqal is currently looking for a Remote Program Officer to join our dynamic, growing team. This position reports to the Director of Grantmaking and Fellowship Programs.
Voqal grantmaking is a philanthropic program that promotes social equity in creative and disruptive ways. We have a deep commitment to racial and social justice. We invest in leaders, organizations, and movements who are closest to injustice and are fighting for collective liberation. We are committed to the promotion of social, economic, and racial justice through the support of community organizing and public policy advocacy. We carry out our work in a way that builds the capacity of communities to win political power and we prioritize funding communities who have traditionally had power used against them.
The Program Officer will advance social justice by developing, managing, and leading equity-centered grantmaking initiatives that strengthen and protect five pillars of democracy: representative government, fundamental rights, information and communication, fair processes, and civic engagement.
Duties may include researching and recommending impactful grantmaking opportunities; creating strong, deep, and trusting relationships with grantees, potential grantees, and peer funders; and deepening the alignment and practice of equitable grantmaking both internally and externally.
Approximately half of the work will be in service to the people-led movements in Chicago. We strongly encourage applicants from the Chicagoland area or applicants who are available to travel to Chicago often, when travel is a safe option.
