Voqal has always focused on doing its part to create a more socially equitable world. We tackle this mission in a number of ways including supporting nonprofits and individuals that use media and technology to empower the politically, economically and socially disenfranchised. We invest in social justice-oriented entrepreneurs and provide them the resources and space to get their next big idea off the ground. We also provide capital and strategic advice to entrepreneurs and organizations working to address the educational opportunity gap.
Through our Mobile Citizen project, we work to bridge the digital divide by offering free and low-cost internet to educational institutions, nonprofits and social welfare agencies. Finally, as a collaboration of EBS licensees, we do our part to advocate for more socially equitable telecommunications policies.
All of these efforts are focused on creating the more engaged and empowered public we believe is needed to make this vision of a truly socially equitable world possible.
Over the years it has become clear that social equity can be tackled from an infinite number of directions. In order to more effectively rise to this challenge, it was clear that developing a comprehensive plan of action was needed. Recognizing that fact, Voqal’s leadership took on the task of developing the organization’s first strategic plan aimed at better aligning Voqal’s various projects in an effort to increase the organization’s focus and impact.
The three-year strategic plan which begins on April 1, 2020, will focus on four strategic areas. They include:
- Equitable and unrestricted access to information.
- Political power for those who have traditionally had power used against them.
- Excellent and equitable system of public education.
- Enhancing Voqal capabilities.
This plan is a huge opportunity for us. We believe it will enable Voqal to have a greater, more positive impact on the world.
Since our beginnings in 1983, Voqal has always strived to make the world a better place by creating a more educated and engaged public. We believe this plan will help us build on that legacy and enable us to rise to the challenges and opportunities of the next three years and beyond.
