2 Days till Shutdown: Giving the Disconnected and Disenfranchised a Voice

Nov. 4, 2015

Today’s Mobile Citizen story features North Carolina Fair Share CDC. Only 2 days left till the shutdown. Sign our petition today.

North Carolina Fair Share CDC is a statewide advocacy and leadership development organization.

The mobile Internet service Mobile Citizen provides is essential for when the staff leaves the office and connects with constituents — poor disenfranchised African Americans who have voices that are not being heard because of the digital divide.

North Carolina Fair Share CDC’s executive director Akiba Byrd describes the disenfranchised 55+ crowd as most vulnerable. “If we can help this important audience set up and understand how to use the Internet, we have a positive impact on their retirement security, healthcare decisions, show how to access banking and other accounts online, train on social media for information and to connect with family, and follow and engage with elected officials and government agencies,” Akiba said.

If you agree that everyone deserves access to the Internet please sign our petition.
