A Poetic Profile of the 2020 Voqal Fellowship: Preamble

At the 2020 Voqal Fellowship convening that was held back in January, Voqal was again honored to have poet, Adrian H. Molina document the meeting through a process called Live Scribe Poetics. The resulting poem is serving as a manifesto for this year’s Voqal Fellowship cohort. Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing excerpts from the poem, Collective. The first installment is below.

Preamble

Step front, step back,
step left, step right.
Step up! Dance your ass off, your gifts —
Bones and Grit, claim your place
within Heaven and Earth.

Introduce yourself, and feel free to smile
and laugh with your new friends.
Until it is time to get serious
because it’s not about your resume.
It’s not about what you do.
It’s why you do it.
