Education Opportunity Project Spotlight: TalkingPoints

Voqal’s Education Opportunity Project seeks to measurably reduce educational opportunity gaps by providing capital and strategic advice to entrepreneurs and organizations working to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged populations. As part of a new feature aimed at promoting the work of these forward-thinking, changemakers, we are regularly highlighting one of these organizations on the #makingairwaves blog. This month we take a look at Education Opportunity Project grantee, TalkingPoints.

Based in San Francisco, TalkingPoints believes student success depends on a partnership between families, teachers and communities. In order to advance this path to success, TalkingPoints works to unlock the potential of families to fuel their children’s learning through accessible family engagement technology.

TalkingPoints uses a multilingual, parent-teacher engagement platform with two-way translation and content. Its technology is designed to empower teachers and parents to build strong partnerships, change mindsets and increase their knowledge around the family’s role in education.

Voqal’s Education Opportunity Project grant is supporting efforts by TalkingPoints to evaluate its effectiveness at increasing communication between parents and teachers, increase parents’ engagement in their children’s schooling and improve children’s socioemotional skills in grade 3.

With the support of Voqal and others, TalkingPoints hopes to impact 3 million students and their parents by 2020.
