Education Opportunity Project Spotlight: Weird Enough Productions

Voqal’s Education Opportunity Project (EOP) seeks to measurably reduce educational opportunity gaps by providing capital and strategic advice to entrepreneurs and organizations working to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged populations. In the first Education Opportunity Project spotlight of the new year, we take a look at EOP grantee, Weird Enough Productions.

Weird Enough Productions is a Washington D.C.-based comic company building a new world of stories aiming to change the one we live in. It tells stories that inspire people to embrace their quirks and get hyped about being themselves.

By using media content to change hearts, and media literacy education to change minds, it uses the influence of media to change the world for the better. It accomplishes this through two award-winning technology platforms: Weird Enough HQ. and Get Media L.I.T.

Voqal’s EOP grant supports Weird Enough Productions school-focused program, Get Media L.I.T. (Learn, Inquire, and Inform). This program uses unique media content to empower disadvantaged students and teachers with three key skills.

Social Emotional Learning
Media L.I.T. allows participants to overcome stereotypes with agency and expression.

Digital Literacy
Media L.I.T. gives students the critical analysis skills needed to fight fake news.

Digital Citizenship
Media L.I.T. enables students to better engage with social media by helping them to become better digital citizens.

Voqal believes the fight to ensure all students have equal opportunity is one that requires innovative solutions. We are proud to support pioneers in this space like Weird Enough Productions and look forward to its continued work to address the educational opportunity gap through storytelling and digital citizenship.
