A Poetic Profile of the 2019 Voqal Fellows: Cleffnotes

March 14, 2019

As we mentioned last week, this year’s Voqal Fellowship cohort was honored to have poet, Adrian H. Molina document its convening through a process called Live Scribe Poetics. The Fellows agreed that the resulting poem would serve as a manifesto for this year’s Fellowship. The second installment of Cooperative and Collaborative Politics of Change is below.

II. Cleffnotes

The root is the drum.
We come from the circle.
We are here to open the spiral.
The bass carries the pace of time,
paired with the tone, the backbone
of the Universe. Through drums
we become One—a movement
that is carried
not in spite of creativity,
but because of it.

“We are strung together to create
a masterful experience”—a masterpiece
of melody, rhythm and color that sounds
like Justice.
